At the request of a PACT in Newcastle, DPI organised the Alternative to Violence Programme (AVP) be conducted there over a late November weekend.
The group felt that the growing tension between farmers and farm workers could escalate into violence, necessitating an appeal for the skills AVP offers.
A successful workshop was done by the AVP with nineteen participants.
The group was impressed with one AVP facilitator as she was originally from their area, with a comment being passed that “... this is not a Zulu speaking girl that came from SOWETO to teach us but rather one of our own that went to SOWETO and has returned to us.”
Most of the workshop was done in Zulu and excellently facilitated over two days.
